| dc.description.abstract | Este estudo foi conduzido para avaliar 452 protocolos de diagnóstico para piroplasmose eqüina, através do Teste de Fixação de Complemento (TFC) em cavalos da raça Puro Sangue Inglês (PSI), com a idade entre quatro a seis anos, que competiram nos anos de 1995 a 1997, no Jockey Club Brasileiro, Rio de Janeiro, originários de 15 estabelecimentos. A queda da “performance” foi o primeiro sinal evidenciado em 70% dos cavalos diagnosticados como soropositivos ao TFC para piroplasmoses eqüinas, durante o período estudado. No TFC a percentagem média de reações positivas nesta amostragem de eqüinos foi de 27,4% para antígenos de Babesia equi (Laveran, 1901) e de Babesia caballi (Nuttal & Strickland, 1912), sendo 19,7% para B. equi, 4,8% para B. caballi e 2,9% para ambos os antígenos. Os estabelecimentos eqüestres foram classificados em grande, médio e pequeno porte, de acordo com o número médio de eqüinos que competiram neste período: grande porte, compreendendo de 20 a 50 cavalos ou mais; médio porte, 10 até 20 cavalos e finalmente pequeno porte, com até 10 cavalos. A média de prevalência de portadores de infecção por B. XXII equi, variou de 10 a 30% em todos os estabelecimentos estudados. Não houve registros de infecções mistas por Babesia sp. nos estabelecimentos de grande porte, que fizeram parte deste estudo. Nos haras e centros de treinamento, o controle de carrapatos nos animais com acaricidas, foi feito somente na época de infestações mais evidenciadas (julho e/ou dezembro). As espécies encontradas foram identificadas como Amblyomma cajennense e Anocentor nitens, com ampla predominância da primeira. | pt_BR |

| dc.description.abstractOther | This survey was carried out to evaluate 452 diagnostics’ protocols for equine piroplasmosis through. The Complement Fixation Test (CFT) for throughbread horses, between four and six years old, that had competed in the years of 1995 until 1997, at the Jockey Club Brasileiro, Rio de Janeiro, from fifteen establishments. The reduction of performance was the first indication showed in 70% of the seropositive horses through CFT for equine piroplasmosis, during the studied period. In CFT the percentage of positive reactions in this equine sample was: 27,4% for Babesia equi (Laveran, 1901) antigens and Babesia caballi (Nuttal & Strickland, 1912) antigens; being 19,7% for B. equi antigen; 4,8% for B. caballi antigen and 2,9% for both antigens. The equestrian establishments were classified about large and small size according to mediae the average of equines evaluated in this period: large size - understanding 20 until 50 horses; medial size - 10 until 20 horses and finally, small size - with just 10 horses. The media proportion of infection’s carriers for B. equi differed between 20% and 30%, in all the establishments that were studied. There were no reports about associated infections caused by XXIV both Babesia sp. At the haras and training centers the ticks’ control with acaricides was made only in periods of infestations more clearly in the months of July or December and adults ticks large showing development. The species of ticks found were identified as: Amblyomma cajennense and Anocentor nitens, the first one specie being predominant. | en |
