| Abstract: | This dissertation examines the practices of care and the dynamics of circulation produced by women who visit incarcerated men in the Gericinó Penitentiary Complex, located in the western zone of Rio de Janeiro. Based on an ethnography conducted in the territorial surroundings of the prison, the research follows the movements, waiting times, and interactions that precede the moment of the visit, observing how wives, mothers, and other relatives organize routines and resources in response to institutional requirements. The study was developed through conversations and the close observation of practices that structure the visiting day, such as the preparation of food, the organization of bags, and circulation through boarding houses, small grocery stores, and local transportation networks. The analysis demonstrates that the prison is not limited to the interior of its walls; rather, it produces an expanded field of relations that involves families, local commerce, and peripheral territories |
